Jonathan Butler is the author of Community Care Law and Local Authority Handbook (Jordans, March 2008). The contents of this book reflects his experience and practice in the area of community care law. This includes the Mental Health Acts 1983 & 2007; Capacity Act 2005; Protection of vulnerable adults; Disabled children; Assessment of adults in need; Regime of charging by Local Authorities; Direct Payments; Community Care versus Health Care Needs. His experience includes the jurisdictions of the Court of Protection, the Mental Health Review Tribunal and the High Court and Court of Appeal. He has represented in equal measure both Local Authorities, and service users/private clients on all of the above matters. He also sits as a part-time President of the Mental Health Review Tribunal, and regularly provides talks and training within these areas to a variety of professionals. Jonathan’s new book published this year - Mental Health Tribunals: Law Practice and Procedure (Jordans) is intended to be used as a practical guide not only for lawyers but for patients also.
