Kate Burnell is a specialist family law practitioner and her work includes all areas of family law including children cases, financial cases and injunction proceedings.

She has extensive experience in the full range of children proceedings including public law applications, private law applications and adoption cases. She regularly acts for local authorities in public law cases, representing local authorities in proceedings and advising prior to and during proceedings. Kate also has considerable experience representing parents and other family members in both public law and private law cases and representing children both directly and through their Guardians. Kate has a particular interest in cases involving medical issues.

Within the private law sphere Kate’s practice encompasses all types of private law applications including applications for leave to remove from the jurisdiction, applications for change of name and applications relating to choice of school. Kate has also advised on enforcement of private law orders in cases involving the United States. She also has experience of abduction cases.

Kate’s work also includes all types of personal protective injunctive relief applications and committal and enforcement proceedings.

Kate has lectured for a number of organisations on children issues. She was been actively involved in the training of junior members of the profession for a number of years as a part-time tutor on the bar vocational course and lecturing to pupils. She has a keen interest in the development of the law and regularly attends conferences both nationally and internationally. Kate is actively involved in a number of family law organisations and is a member of the committee of a number of such organisations.
